Albert Thomas Mickler (70) of Dublin, Georgia, also known to those he loved as "The Stamp Man", "Big Time", "Tombo", "Tommy", "Chief", "Daddy" and "PopPop" went home to be with the Lord on the morning of Wednesday August 24, 2022.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Frances May. Tom is survived by his loving wife Suzanne and his children Bryce, Justin and Olivia "Livy", his sister Carol, brother Patrick as well as 9 grandchildren.
Born to Arnold and Ernestine Mickler, Tom grew up in Pelham, Georgia. At the age of 9, he learned Morse code, built himself a heathkit radio, and became the youngest licensed Ham Radio operator in the world. In High School Tom could be heard on the Pelham airways as a part time DJ.
Tom enlisted in the Navy where he used his radio and technical prowess as a communications and electronics technician in Adak, Alaska. He then reenlisted and volunteered for Submarine Nuclear Power School and finished out his 8 years on submarines. During and after the Vietnam war he was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Adak Alaska, Guam and ultimately in Tehran Iran where Sue joined him in 1976. They were soon married at the American Embassy.
After returning stateside, they raised their family of three while he followed his career in aerospace technologies working with Cabletronix, General Dynamics, Rockwell International, and was part of the start-up team for National Water Lift (now Parker Aerospace) in Dublin GA.
Tom was an avid stamp collector who loved motorcycles, his music, and was blessed to be a foster parent to several children in our community.
Tom's Celebration of Life is being held Saturday, September 24th at The Church of the Immaculate Conception in Dublin GA. Service begins at 10 o'clock.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Kids Cup, Dublin GA, Foster Families Charity in his name.
