Angelyn Brantley Price

Angelyn Brantley Sims entered into eternal rest on August 1, 2026. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Fort Valley. 209 South Miller Street, on Friday. August 7, 2026 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Danny Stubbs officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, 720 South Camellia Boulevard in Fort Valley. Family will greet friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church.

Angelyn was born in Johnson County, Georgia, on September 30, 1933, to the late William Riley Brantley and Susie Mae Colston Brantley. She received a BS Degree from Georgia Teachers College (now Georgia Southern University) and later earned a Masters Degree from the University of Georgia.

She and her late husband, Charles W. Sims, moved to Fort Valley in 1956 and made their home there until their respective deaths. Angelyn taught elementary school for eighteen years and then served as School Food Service Director of Peach County Schools for fourteen years before retiring in 1988. Angelyn loved her former students and maintained close relationships with many of them through the years. She always felt that she received more from them than she ever gave them. Her reward was seeing them reach their potential both personally and professionally.

In 2007, Angelyn married Bennie Price, a childhood friend. Bennie was a much loved member of the family until his passing in 2025.

Angelyn was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Fort Valley since 1956. She loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and tried to honor him by serving others. She was involved in many aspects of church life, but most enjoyed the music ministry. She sang in the adult choir, and served as the church pianist and substitute organist. She served many years as a Sunday School teacher and at age eighty-four she became the director of the senior adult ministry, the Thirty-Niners.

Angelyn was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society—a professional organization for women educators—and was a member of the Crawford County Retired Educators Association. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, flower gardening, following Duke University Men’s Basketball, UGA football, and the Atlanta Braves. Angelyn was active with the Georgia Southern Alumni Association, serving on their Board of Directors for three years.

In addition to her active church and community life, she thoroughly enjoyed being Gan Gan to her beloved grandsons and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Charles Sims, her husband of 19 years, Bennie Price, her brother, Jim Roe Brantley, and her sisters, Martha Bacon and Judy Washburn.

Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved sons, Roger Sims and his wife Virginia, and Brantley Sims and his wife Beth; grandsons, Cole Sims and his wife Ashley, Ryan Sims and his wife Julie, and Riley Sims and his wife Marcia. In addition, she is survived by great grandsons, Boe, Colston, Benjamin and great granddaughters Josie and Olivia; and her brother, Riley Brantley, Jr. Angelyn is also survived by a step-son, Rodney Price and his wife Tess, six step grandchildren, and six step great grandchildren. In addition, she is survived by her nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
