Ann Veal Harris

November 25, 1936 — July 9, 2024

Julia Ann Veal Harris, age 87, of Hawkinsville passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2024, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Hawkinsville First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Christy Bandy officiating. The family will greet friends in the church sanctuary from 10:00 A.M. until service time.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents Howard Bueal Veal and Julia Chester Veal; her brother William "Billy" Veal; and her sister Rowena Veal. She is survived by her son Dennis A. Harris of Hawkinsville, by brothers Chester Veal of Lilburn and Hueal A. Veal of Wrightsville.

Ann cherished her faith and the fellowship with her many friends. Most of all, she was passionate about helping others in the community, which she did with little or no fanfare. She often took food to home-bound family and friends and was famous for her earthquake cakes, Not only did she take comfort food to individuals, but she brought comfort in so many other ways by sitting through surgeries and hospital stays with families and individuals; taking people to doctor's appointments and chemotherapy; and offering comfort whenever she could. She was a frequent visitor to local nursing and retirement homes, taking thoughtful gifts and offering words of encouragement to the residents and their families. Her faith was her guiding light throughout her life, which helped to shape her into a compassionate individual.

She was a member of the Lucille Adams Sunday School Class. She was a faithful member of United Methodist Women, now United Women in Faith and loved participating in the many projects of the unit. She especially loved delivering the donated items to the Holly Jolly Shoppe at the Beverly Knight Olson Children's Hospital in Macon. In 2014, Ann received the UMW Women of the Year Quite Disciple Award for all her good deeds. Ann was also a member of Magnolia Midlands Chapter 1417 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE) where she always led the way in raising funds for Alzheimer's Research and other chapter projects. In between all her "doing for others," Ann found time to dig in the dirt and always had beautiful blooming flowers in her yard.

Ann's kindness and legacy will continue to inspire us all. May we find comfort in knowing Ann left an indelible mark on our lives through her love and kindness. Ann was the epitome of a servant's heart. She never failed to display God's love to those around her.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial gifts may be made to Hawkinsville First United Methodist Church, 44 Merritt Street, Hawkinsville, GA 31036, St. Jude's Research Hospital, or the charity of your choice.
