Annelle Mattox

June 15, 1935 — February 21, 2024

Annelle Smith Mattox passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, after an extended illness. She was 88 years old. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Perry Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Houston Lake Baptist Church or Alzheimer's Association.

Annelle was born on June 15, 1935, to the late Hugh and Lois Smith. At a young age, she married the love of her life, Aubie Mattox. Together, the couple created a loving and encouraging environment in which they raised their two children. For most of her life, Annelle worked in retail sales and loved her jobs serving others daily. Grants Department Store and True Value in Perry are where she earned most of the training that she would use in her career working for K-Mart. Once there, Annelle quickly worked her way up in management, becoming the Electronics Manager. Having exhibited strong work ethics and wonderful organizational skills, K-Mart corporation enlisted her to be a part of the teams that eventually closed the stores in Perry, Macon, and Warner Robins. When all was said and done, Annelle retired from K-Mart after over twenty-five years of service. She worked until she was in her 70's.

Through the years, Annelle was a long-time, faithful member of Houston Lake Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School in the children's department for many years and dearly loved her church family. Annelle was an easy-going, loving wife and mother. Widowed unexpectedly at age 55, she enjoyed working in the yard, cutting the grass, keeping it clean and manicured, just like her husband had always done. Annelle was a wonderful example for her children, grandchildren, friends, and coworkers that anyone can survive with hard work and determination. However, she entered the eighth decade of her life facing a disease that completely changed her way of life. As dementia took over, she no longer was able to work in her home or her yard, could not attend the church that she loved so much, or even live in her own home. As she succumbed to Alzheimer's and gradually knew no one, not even herself, her family trusts that God now has her in the palm of her hand, completely restored.

Annelle was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Helen, Herschel, Margaret, and Linda; a daughter-in-law, Wanda Mattox; and her son-in-law, Tim Clark.

Left to cherish the memories they made with Annelle are her children, Ricky Mattox (Darlene) and Dianne Clark, both of Perry; her grandchildren, Rick Mattox, Chris Mattox (Samantha), and Bentley Partain Lindsey; a great-granddaughter, Nora Mattox; a brother, Ronnie Smith (Sandra); a sister, Merle Anderson; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Local Obituary Courtesy of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel.
