Mrs. Dixon was born June 28, 1942, in Lyons, Georgia. She was a former bookkeeper for Laurens County DFCS and a member of Marie Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents Edgar and Helen Hartley Hunt and husband Henry Smith. Mrs. Dixon passed away Thursday, June 2, 2022, at her residence under hospice care.
If you asked my sweet Mama what her name was lately, she would quickly say, "BARBARA HELEN HUNT WOODARD SMITH DIXON" with a big smile on her face! She was larger than all the names she claimed.
She loved the Lord, her family, and friends without measure! She was a beautiful, fun-loving, strawberry blonde raised in Dublin, Georgia.
As a graduate of Dublin High school, her loyalty to the Dublin Irish followed her all her days. She was a committed member of the Pilot Club of Dublin. The annual Saint Patrick's Festival was among her hometown favorite activities, where she would hit the stage and shake a leg with the amazing Southern Sassafras Cloggers! She was awarded the Amy Cannon Spirit of the Festival award in 2016!
Among other things, she loved spending time with family and friends. She loved to travel, dance, have a good time and shop. She found out later in life she had a love for horses too. A beautiful soul, inside and out, she will greatly be missed this side of Heaven. I know without a doubt that she is now singing, dancing, loving Jesus and her family on the streets of Gold!
She is survived by her husband William Ronnie Dixon and his children and grandchildren, her son Todd (Pam) Woodard, daughter Michelle Woodard (Hugh) Kight, brother Wendell Hartley (Donna) Hunt, grandchildren Rachael (Mickey) Jarrard, Jessica (Tyler) Daniel, Michael Kight, Jordan (Becca) Woodard, David Kight and Abby Woodard, her 7 great grandchildren and also Henry Smith's family and grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Michael Kight, David Kight, Jordan Woodard, Mickey Jarrard, Tyler Daniel and Garrett Ammerman.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. on Sunday at the church.
The family will be meeting at the home of Hugh and Michelle Kight, 3557 GA Hwy 257, Dexter, GA 31019.
