Bernice Tanner Sanford, age 85, passed away Tuesday, September 12, 2017.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at West View Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia. Rev. Paul Brown, Rev. Billy Glosson and Rev. Steve Helmly will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00PM Thursday, September 14th, 2017.
Bernice Sanford was born in Oconee, GA and lived there through the 9th grade. She and her family then moved to Toomsboro where she played as Toomsboro High School team captain in basketball and where she subsequently graduated. The first part of her career, she was a hairdresser and owned her own beauty shop for over 25 years in Milledgeville and Toomsboro. Later, she became a restaurant entrepreneur, first at Swampland in Toomsboro and then at Brown's Restaurant in Dublin, where she worked until retirement after 20 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Toomsboro and also served as a deacon at First Christian Church in Dublin and she most recently was a member at First Independent Methodist in Dublin.
Survivors include three children, Angela Cribb (Robert) of Atlanta, Kerry Sanford (Sandra) and Ginger Register (Dennis) of Rentz, a sister Sadie Montgomery of McIntyre, four grandchildren, Ryan and Erin Cribb, Eric (Becky) Harris and Paige Harris, three step grandchildren Jeff (Tamara) Allen, Scott (Lea) Allen and Kirk (Megan) Register, two great grandchildren, Haydn and Maddox Harris and five step great grandchildren, Alyssa Register, Makayla Register, Brooke Allen, Breanna Allen and Walker Allen.
Friends who prefer to make a monetary contribution, in lieu of flowers, are suggested to provide to Integrity Hospice, 1101 Hillcrest Parkway, Suite B, Dublin, Georgia 31021 or Serenity Hospice, 520 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin, Georgia 31021.
Pallbearers will be Rodney Strickland, Glen Shivers, Herman Hall, Jr., Chris Harris, John Myers and John Robinson.
Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
