Kay Harrison

January 23, 1952 — December 26, 2024

Funeral Services for Bessie Kay Harrison, age 72, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, December 28, 2024, at New Home Baptist Church with interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Jason Edenfield and Rev. Burton Dixon will officiate.

Kay was born January 23, 1952, in Swainsboro, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late John Clifton Harrison and Nannie Ree Blizzard Harrison. She was retired from the Social Security Administration. She was a faithful member of New Home Baptist Church where she served as Church Secretary and Treasurer. Kay passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024, at her residence.

Kay was an avid reader and loved to share her books with family and friends. She was happiest when at home and gathering with family, especially those nephews and nieces who adored her beyond words. She was their aunt, their mama, and grandma, and always reminded each one "to never forget your raising". She loved taking her frequent strolls around the farm and to the ponds with her nephew Cliff. Kay rescued many stray and abandoned animals throughout her life, and the love among her and all of them was obvious to everyone. She was the "twin" and best friend to sister Polly, and most of the time "mother" to sister and brother Johnnie and Charles.

Kay is survived by her brother, Charles Harrison of Kite; 2 sisters, Polly Harrison (Floyd) Collins of Kite, and Johnnie Harrison Edge of Wrightsville; nieces and nephews, Cliff Collins of Kite, Sara Collins of Wrightsville, Meredith Edge (Blake Deal and Isla Mikell-Deal) of Statesboro, and Evan (Adrienne) Edge of St. Simons Island.

Pallbearers will be Brack Tanner, Roy Powell, Walter Drew, Jody Scott, Mark Crosby, and Donald Blizzard.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. Saturday, December 28, 2024, at New Home Baptist Church.

The family asks that donations be made in memory of Kay to Samaritan's Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org or the Emanuel County Humane Society at P.O. Box 443, Swainsboro, GA 30401.
