Betty J. Carey

Funeral services for Betty J. Carey, age 90, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Zack Blount will officiate.

Mrs. Carey was born on March 27, 1934, in Pringle, Georgia. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where she was a prayer warrior on the church prayer chain. She spent her time volunteering at Heritage Inn and Wrightsville Manor and visiting shut-ins on a weekly basis. She loved to cook and made one of the best pecan pies you'd ever eaten. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mack and Alma Garrett Waller; her first husband, Milton R. Tanner; a son, Mack Tanner; her second husband, James David Carey; and her brothers, Russell Waller, Johnny Waller, and C.L. Waller. Mrs. Carey passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Tennille Retirement Home.

She is survived by her son, Russ (Susan) Tanner of Tennille; brother, Phillip (Betty Jane) Waller of Wrightsville; sister, Maxine Waller (Charles) Garrett of Dublin; two grandchildren, Taylor Tanner and Cassidy Tanner; two great grandchildren, Riley Rivers and Ember Skillman; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Waller, Garrett Orr, Will Orr, Cam Waller, Mack Waller and Michael Waller.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M on Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral service.
