Betty Jo, affectionately known as "Jo", was the daughter of the late James Howard Brantley and Virginia Carroll Brantley. Jo was the granddaughter of Eliza M. Carroll, "Mama Carroll", and grew up on the Carroll farm in the Moore's Chapel Community of Johnson County, surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, and neighbors. She was a lifelong member of Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church, where she also served as occasional pianist. Jo graduated from Wrightsville High School "Class of 66" and graduated from Georgia College. Jo spent her professional career in roles where she served the children and their families of Johnson County. First employed as a third-grade teacher for Wrightsville Elementary School, she was later employed for 34 years by Johnson County Department of Family & Children Services, retiring as Social Services Supervisor.
Jo's most cherished years were spent as the mother to her son, the late Joel Howard "Joey" Ashcraft.
She delighted in all of Joey's achievements and was the happiest when she was attending his various sporting events, scouting, and school events. She truly enjoyed Joey's friends, her "other boys". Her fondest memories were the many summer vacations that she and Joey spent at Daytona Beach, Fla. with her friends and their families. The beach was her "happy place". After her granddaughters were born, going to Disney World, the beach, and their sporting and school events, extended her joy.
In her recent years, Jo, enjoyed feeding and watching her cardinals and hummingbirds, attending luncheons with her "Class of 66" classmates, going to breakfast with her friends in "The Breakfast Club", and visiting with her neighbors and friends.
In addition to being predeceased by her parents, grandmother, and son, she is also predeceased by her brother-in-law, William S. Boone.
Her survivors are her beloved granddaughters, Jordan Elizabeth Ashcraft, Payton Gibbs Ashcraft, their mother, Lynn F. Ashcraft, all of Dublin. She is also survived by her sister, Jean Brantley Boone, of Milledgeville; her two maternal aunts, Mrs. Hazel Rachels, of Wrightsville and Mrs. Mary Foskey, of Swainsboro; her nieces and nephews, Brent S. (Ofelia) Boone, of Milledgeville, Ashley B. (Chris) Snider, of Pooler, and Zach (Brooke) Boone, of West Des Moines, Iowa; and great nieces, Isabel Boone, Anabelle Snider, and Lucy Boone. She is also survived by a host of cousins, friends and her special neighbors, who became family, and lovingly saw her daily, The Barry & Michelle Wilds Family.
