Billie Drake

Billie Drake of Tolland, CT passed away peacefully on the morning of July 19, 2015 due to various health issues over the past year. He was born in Soperton, GA on February 18, 1929. He enlisted in the Army in 1949 and served with the Signal Corp during the Korean War. He was stationed in Ft. Monmout, NJ and then Mt. Washington, NH. It was during that time he met his wife, Betty. He was then deployed to Japan and upon his return stateside to Camp Carlson, CO in 1952, he received an honorable discharge. Billie and Betty were married and have been together for 62 years. Along with his wife, he also leaves a daughter, Debra Drake in Willington, CT, and a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Barry Lanz in Ellington, CT. Billie also leaves 3 grandchildren; Mark Lanz and his wife Ashley in Ellington, CT, Jayme Luginbuhl and her husband Kevin in Tolland, CT, and Audrey Lanz in Ellington, CT. He also leaves two great grandchildren; Nathan who will be 4 in August, and Makenna, 1 month. Billie also leaves a sister, Betty Powell in Augusta, GA. He also had many nieces and nephews. Billie enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also enjoyed woodworking and has made several items for his family including a coffee table, benches, various book shelves, and two sandboxes. He also loved the Lord, enjoyed reading his Bible, and was a member of Grace Bible Baptist Church. A Private graveside burial will be held in Adrian, Georgia. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
