Graveside funeral services for Mr. Carlos L. Smith, age 79, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene Cemetery. Rev. Lamar Kersey will officiate.
Mr. Smith was born July 26, 1936 in the Scott Community of Johnson County. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Jim T. & Velma Toler Smith. He was the owner/operator of Carlos Smith Pine Straw and was a member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church. Never one to meet a stranger, Mr. Smith enjoyed talking and meeting new people and also enjoyed his time on the road as a truck driver. Mr. Smith passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015 at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Zelma F. Smith and a son, Jim Smith, both of Scott, two grandchildren, Carla (T.J.) Page of Dublin and Dallas Smith of Scott, and two sisters, Hazel (Billy)Thompson and Mildred (Earl) Knight both of Scott.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, September 21, 2015 at the funeral home.
Honorary escorts will include Jack Foskey, Thurmon Foskey, Grant Sumner, Jimmy Sumner, Joe Sumner, Wayne Kemp, Ben Garnto, Charles Garnto, Brian Garnto, Grayson Wilson, Danny Wynn and Edwin Knight.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Williams Chapel Baptist Church, 77 K and K Road, Kite, Georgia 31049 or to Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene, 591 Mt. Olive Church Road, Wrightsville, Georgia 31096.
