Carolyn Herin Pancake, 65, passed away on December 3, 2014 in Jupiter, FL. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 11am at the chapel of Stanley Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Moye officiating. The family will greet friends from 10am until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Dublin Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Carolyn was born March 24, 1949 in Macon, Georgia to the late Walter Cary Herin and Dorothy Culbreth Herin. Carolyn graduated from A.L. Miller High School for Girls and Valdosta State University with a BS degree in biology. She went on to earn a Masters in Education from Mercer University and Education Specialist Degrees from Georgia Southern University while employed for many years as a Special Education and Gifted teacher in Laurens County, Dublin City Schools, and Palm Beach County school systems. A born teacher who understood the art of teaching, she believed that every child deserved the best possible and most enriching education and practiced this belief in the classroom to the benefit of her students.
In addition to teaching school, Carolyn also operated "Scales, Tails, and Scuba, Too" in Dublin, GA for many years. She was an impassioned certified PADI Scuba Instructor and introduced countless individuals to a hobby that she dearly loved. For many years she enjoyed riding horses, a skill she learned at Camp Merri-Mac in NC and competed in long distance trail rides. In recent years, Carolyn spent her time exploring Jupiter, FL, where she enjoyed collecting seashells, long walks on the beach, offshore fishing, and spending time with friends and family.
Her memory will be forever treasured by her devoted husband, Kenny Pancake (Jupiter, FL); daughter, Heather Bridges and husband, Kerry Bridges (Warner Robins, GA); son, Trey Chism (Evans, GA); father of her children, Dr. Bill Chism, Jr. of Dublin, step-daughter, Karen Sheltra and Husband Craig Sheltra (Charlotte, NC); step-daughter, Angie Schofield and
husband Richard Schofield (Charleston, SC); brother, Walter Cary Herin Jr., (Lexington, SC); sister, Dorothy Connor (Dunedin, FL); 7 grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would also like to thank Clare Bridge of Tequesta and Trustbridge Hospice for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions in Honor of Carolyn Pancake be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.
