Christopher Hurley "Chris" Rountree

Christopher Hurley Rountree, age 53, of Marietta, Georgia, passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021, in Dublin, Georgia. Chris was born on November 29, 1967, in Vero Beach, Florida. Chris was a graduate of Vero Beach High School ('86). He attended Valdosta State University and graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Agricultural Engineering ('91) and Southern Polytechnic State University with a degree in Civil Engineering ('96). He worked as a Utility Coordinator/Manager for C.W. Matthews Contracting Co. of Marietta, where he excelled in his profession. He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church of Marietta, Ga. Chris enjoyed hiking trails in the mountains, refereeing high school and club soccer, playing tennis and taking family trips to places all over the world. He will be remembered as a loving husband and dedicated father. He was a devoted family man and loved his wife, Erica, and daughters, Cate and Libby. Chris was a great brother to all his siblings. Chris is preceded in death by his father Hurley Ray Rountree, Jr., stepmother Clarice Nason Rountree and grandmother Bertha Rountree. He is survived by his wife Erica Shepard Rountree of Marietta, daughter Julia "Cate" Rountree, mother Helen Kniley (FL), sister Cathleen "Cathy" Rountree Elliott (William Kent "Bill" of FL), brothers Will Nason Cochrane (Grace of NC), Wallace Stanley Cochrane (FL), Frank Cochrane (Wanda of FL), and William "Billy" Cochrane (Tracey of WV), Erica's parents, Daniel and Charlene Shepard (Palatka, FL) and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chris' memory may be made to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy (https://appalachiantrail.org/) or Homemade Wanderlust Trail Journey Blog: Jessica "Dixie" Mills, in the hiking world (https://homemadewanderlust.com/support-my-work/) The family would also like to thank all Laurens County first responders, Georgia State Patrol, and the Laurens County Sheriff's Department that helped in their time of need. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel, Dublin, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
