Memorial services for Daniel Ray Porter, age 74, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, February 10, 2021 in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel with Mr. Richie Porter officiating.
Mr. Porter was born on April 5, 1946 in Dublin, Georgia. Ray enlisted in the US Army and served during the Vietnam war. He worked until his retirement as a computer programmer at Robins Air Force Base and later as an adjunct instructor at Oconee Fall Line Technical College. He was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Addiebell Porter and several brothers and sisters. Mr. Porter passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 in Fairview Park Hospital.
Mr. Porter is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Porter of Rentz, a son, Richie (Kristal) Porter, and a daughter, Robbie (Robby) Hobbs both of Dublin, a sister, Mary Ellen (Charles) Scarbrough of East Dublin, a sister-in-law, Pat Porter of Dublin, grandchildren, Ryan (Kathryn) Hobbs, Randi Hobbs, Raigan Hobbs, Cole Porter, Noah Porter, and Cali Rae Porter, several nieces and nephews, and one great grandson, Henry Ray Hobbs, on the way.
Ray, "Papa", enjoyed watching westerns and sci-fi movies, playing board games, and solving puzzles. He was a skilled craftsman with wood, fixer of all things, and entertaining storyteller with a bit of wisdom to share on just about any subject. Beneath his slightly crusty exterior, Ray was very sweet and generously loved and cherished his family, friends, and dogs – who all endured his endless supply of corny jokes and quick-witted humor. "Papa" was greatly loved in return and will be sorely missed by all.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. at the funeral home prior to the service. Social Distancing guidelines will be in effect and mask will be required by those attending as we are following the COVID guidelines of the local health district and the CDC.
A livestream video will be posted on the Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory Facebook page during the service
Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
