David James Stevenson, 96, passed away on August 16, 2019. He was born in Cornwall, New York, on December 10, 1922, to David and Marion Stevenson. After graduating Cornwall High School, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he fought in the European Theater, including the Invasion of Normandy. Upon returning home, he married Shirley Appleby on May 24, 1947. He worked for 40 years for Mohawk Carpet and was transferred to Dublin, Georgia, in 1965.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Shirley Stevenson; daughters Cheryl Warren (Louis Schipper) and Barbara Stevenson (Bill Hill); grandchildren Clayton Warren (Shea Ellerson), Bethany Warren (Darren Voightlander), Rachel Smith (Austin), Ryan Hill; and great grandchildren Josephine Warren, Harvey Smith, Cora Voightlander.
The service will be held Wednesday, August 21, at 11 a.m. in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home, followed by a 1:00 p.m. committal at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations for Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 400 Woods Ave., Dublin, Georgia 31021.
