Delbert Wayne Bethel, Sr. of Brewton passed away on November 25th. He was born August 30th, 1936, in Hartley, Iowa to Charles and Rose Bethel.
He is survived by Mary Kersey Bethel, his wife of 65 years; his children, Brenda Sue Warnock (Steve), Delbert Wayne Bethel, Jr. (Debra), and Robert Lyle Bethel (Cheryl); his grandchildren, Shannon Miller (Casey), Shawn Warnock (Janine), Bethany Davis (Brian), Derek Bethel, Matthew Bethel (Lauren), Brandy White (Scotty), and Brandon Wynn (Alicia); 14 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. Also surviving are his siblings, Della Cummings, Donnie Bethel, Alice Betten, Richard Bethel, and Chuck Bethel; and sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanell Miller, Janet Cormany, and Annette and Billy Claxton.
He is preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings, Clarence, Lawrence, Jim, Lee, Marion, Bess, and Kenneth.
Mr. Bethel served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. His service included two tours in Vietnam. He received multiple awards including three Bronze Stars for valor, four Purple Hearts, and the Soldier's Medal for heroism. Later, he operated his own business, B-Y Woodworks, for 30 years.
Services for Mr. Bethel will be held Wednesday, November 27th, at Wrightsville Church of the Nazarene at 2:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Burial at Garnto-Logue Cemetery will follow the services.
