Mrs. Marion Dorothy Daniell Rawlins, 105, of Cadwell, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, in Eastman.
Mrs. Rawlins was born on May 11, 1919 in Cadwell, to the late Lonnie Taylor and Purlie Bedingfield Daniell. Her parents passed away before she was three years old, leaving her to the care of her grandparents, Henry Robert and Elizabeth Warren Bedingfield. She grew up viewing her grandmother as her mother and her aunts and uncles as her siblings. Among those aunts and uncles were Johnnie Bedingfield, Essie Cornelia Bedingfield Taylor, Hal Bedingfield, Effie Bedingfield Chappell, Murlie Bedingfield Morrison, Robert Bedingfield, Riley Bedingfield, Rheta Bedingfield Pickern, and Fleta Bedingfield Munzel."
Mrs. Rawlins was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Talmadge "Po-Boy" Rawlins, a son, Tony Shelby Rawlins, and a sister, Lonnie Pearl Daniell Trent.
A longtime member of Cadwell Baptist Church, Mrs. Rawlins loved and actively supported the church as long as she was able. She was a charter member of the Cadwell Garden Club and at one time a member of the American Hemerocallis Society. In years past she was well-known for her beautiful daylilies that lined the street by her house. She was an excellent gardener and cook. Mrs. Rawlins faithfully ministered to others with flower arrangements and with meals for neighbors in times of need. She enjoyed canning, sewing, oil painting, and other hobbies. She played basketball for Cadwell High School and never got over her love for the sport.
Mrs. Rawlins' favorite Scripture verse was Romans 8:28. Whenever something troubling would happen, she would remind her family, "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
She is survived by one daughter, Peggy (Charles) Alligood of Buford, and two sons, Chris (Mitzi) Rawlins of Dublin, and Greg (Rita) of Georgetown. Her grandchildren include Dana (Joel) Alligood Gamonal of Lima, Peru, Stephen (Bethany) Alligood of Newnan, Lisa (Matt) Alligood McCrary of Braselton, Jonathan (Ruth) Alligood of Buford, Timothy (Elise) Alligood of Atlanta, Lee Ann (Andy) Rawlins Keel of Granite City, Illinois, Michael (Cristen) Rawlins of Macon, Joby (Sean Russell) Rawlins Palmer of Henrico, Virginia, and Tammie Falls of Tallahassee, Florida, nine grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mrs. Rawlins will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cadwell Baptist Church in Cadwell. Rev. Charles Alligood and Mr. Stephen Alligood will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Alligood, Jonathan Alligood, Matt McCrary, Michael Rawlins, Ethan Widener, and Levi Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Nathanael Alligood and Jacob Alligood.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2025 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory in Dublin, Georgia.
