Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy F. "Granny Duc" Smith, age 92 will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 14, 2016 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with interment to follow at Snowhill Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Rusty Brown and Rev. Greg Lowery will officiate.
Mrs. Smith was born on February 8, 1924 in Eastman, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Robert J. and Lula Beck Fordham. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Theo Smith, a son-in-law, Norman Bonds, a great grandchild, Christian Theo Rowe, and 2 infant sons. She was a retired CNA at Fairview Park Hospital. She was a homemaker, where she loved to quilt, do word puzzles, and always practiced putting others first. Mrs. Smith passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at Fairview Park Hospital.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her 3 daughters, Ann (Freddie) Evans of Cedar Grove, Linda Bonds of Cadwell, and Connie (Ralph) Brown of Dublin, 7 grandchildren, Twana (Dan) King, Clay (Tonia) Evans, Rusty (Holly) Brown, Brittany (David) Rowe, Carlan (Chad) Jump, Crissie (Stephen) West, and Daphne (Phil) Best, and 16 great grandchildren, Hannah Holt, Lane Holt, Julia King, Taylor King, Jack King, Ashlyn Brown, Rylan Brown, Graci Rowe, Benjamin Rowe, Eden Rowe, Beau Best, Norah Best, Coy Jump, Annaliese West, Addison West, and Nicholas West.
Granny Duc took a particular interest in several young men. She spent countless hours reaching, teaching, and preaching to them during the summers. These young men held a special place in her heart, and will serve as pallbearers, Michael Coleman, Jeff Upshaw, Chad Sapp, Chad Upshaw, Stephen Rogers, Matt Sapp, Brad Sapp, George Quick, Todd Quick and Jay Wood.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at the funeral home, and will be at the residence of David and Brittany Rowe at 499 Graci Lane in Cadwell, Georgia.
