Doyle Russell Burch of Saint Augustine, FL, formerly of Dublin, GA , passed away Tuesday, January 24 at age 75. He is absent from his body, but present with his Lord! (2 Cor. 5:8). He was a member/deacon of Ancient City Baptist Church in St. Augustine, FL and has resided in St. Augustine for the past several years. Russ, son of Doyle E. Burch and Mildred Evans Burch, was born June 21, 1941 in Dublin, GA and grew up in the Cadwell community. He graduated from Dublin High School and attended Berry College. He received his undergraduate degree from GA Southern in 1963. After a brief career as a high school math teacher, he earned his MED degree from the University of Georgia in 1968. He later taught college insurance courses at UGA while completing his course work for a PhD in business. Russ owned an insurance agency in Athens, GA before embarking on a 25 year insurance company home office management career. During his career he earned three professional financial designations: Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC), and Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). In 1992 Russ left his position as Sr. VP Business and Individual Marketing at American Heritage Life Insurance Company, Jacksonville, FL and began a final 20-year career as a self employed registered investment advisor. During these latter career years he provided financial advice and managed investment assets for individuals and businesses in Dublin, GA, and surrounding communities.
Russ is survived by his beloved family: devoted wife of 54 years, Alice "Susie" Dominy; daughter, Donna Burch (James Lee) Thompson, III, Tallahassee, FL; son, Timothy Russell (Saidy Barinaga) Burch, Key Biscayne, FL; Grandchildren, Kristen Amanda Thompson, Kevin Harrison (Bailey) Thompson, Andrew Russell Burch, and Saidy Gabriela Burch; Great grandchildren, Dakotah Claire Thompson and Cameron Isaiah Thompson . He is also survived by three siblings: Geraldine (Wayne) Spinks, Marietta, GA; Joyce (Richard) Stanley, Dublin, GA; Roy (Donna) Burch, Dublin, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Russ was predeceased by his parents: Doyle Edwin & Mildred Evans Burch; stepfather, Phillip F Smith, a beloved granddaughter, Alice Rebecca Thompson, and two nephews Chandler Stanley
and Stephen Dominy.
The family will receive extended family and friends Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Stanley Funeral & Crematory in Dublin, GA followed immediately by a celebration of Russ' life held in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel at 2:00 p.m. A private family burial will take place at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in the Cadwell Community. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to "Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery Fund", P. O. Box 40, Cadwell, GA 31009, or the charity of your choice.
