Dr. Bennie Dean Fitts

Graveside services for Dr. Bennie Dean Fitts, age 87, will be held at 3:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 8, 2023, in Dublin Memorial Gardens with Rev. Jerry Axtell officiating. Services will be livestreamed at https://my.gather.app/remember/dr-bennie-fitts

Dr. Fitts was born on February 4, 1936, in Moorhead, Mississippi, to the late Lois E. and Evelyn Gertrude Melton Fitts.

He was a veteran of the United States Army. He graduated from Delta State University and later graduated from the University of TN College of Dentistry in 1962. He became a Licensed Dentist in the state of Mississippi in 1962, opening his private practice in Belzoni, Mississippi. He later became a dentist with the V.A. Medical Center in Huntington, WV. He was later transferred to Marion, IL and from there on to Dublin, GA. He moved to Dublin in 1977, where he was the Chief of Dentistry at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center until he retired in 1996.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, family member, and friend. He was intelligent and quick-witted, and stayed busy after retirement working the family blueberry farm, watching history documentaries, reading books, working puzzles, playing cards with his buddies, traveling with his wife, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Betty Sue Gibson Fitts; infant daughter, Cindy Fitts; and son, Gary D. Fitts. Dr. Fitts passed away on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at his residence.

Dr. Fitts is survived by his son, Keith Alexander Fitts (Sandra) of Byron; grandchildren, Betsy Sue Fitts Whitt (Ellison), Marilynne Fitts, Kristina Fitts Bush (Nick), and Emily Fitts Allen (Peyton); and great grandchildren, Avery Drake Spires, Aurora Lynne Whitt and Ella Sue Whitt.

Pallbearers will be Marilynne Fitts, Ellison Whitt, Nick Bush, Peyton Allen, and Wayne Roberson. Honorary pallbearer will be Avery Spires.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
