Funeral services for Mr. Edward Austin Colter, age 93 will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 20, 2016 in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory, with interment to follow at Cadwell City Cemetery. Rev. Greg Lowery will officiate.
Mr. Colter was born on April 11, 1923 in Cadwell, Georgia. He was the son of the late Emmett Mitchell and Annie Jane Fordham Colter. He was a lifelong resident of Laurens County, Georgia. He was a retired aircraft mechanic at Warner Robins Air Force Base for 33 1/3 years, and was also a retired farmer. He was a member of Cadwell Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Brotherhood Director, and Social Chairperson. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #340 in Dexter where he served on the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masters of GA, and a member of the Shriners International. Mr. Colter passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at Serenity Place.
Mr. Colter is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Louise Colter of Cadwell, 3 daughters, Annese Colter (Walt) Thomas of Marietta, Pam Colter (Keith) Moon of Dublin, and Susan Colter Beacham of Dublin, a brother, Charles Colter of Pawleys Island, SC, 2 sisters, Juanita Silas of Dublin, and Quida Coleman of Rentz, 5 grandchildren, Gregory Edward Melton, Lisa Melton (Tracy) Law, Jay Colter (Meredith) Thomas, DeAnn Thomas (Spencer) Bomar, Rebecca Beacham (Jason) Hall, 11 great grandchildren, Jessica Stephens, Evan (Sydney) Melton, Joshua Jacob Hall, Austin Joel Hall, Luke Colter Law, Landon Scott Law, Colter Judson Thomas, Samuel McClain Thomas, Rees Katherine Thomas, Wesley Scott Thomas, and Thomas Spencer Yeichan Bomar, and a great great granddaughter, Gracie Lee Melton.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Sellers, Ralph Mullis, Danny Whittle, Sonny Drum, Quinton Mullis, and Keith Roberson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Masonic Lodge Dexter #340 will serve as Honorary Escort.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Mr. Colter to the Serenity Foundation at 504 Parker Dairy Road, Dublin, GA 31021.
