Eugene "Snuffy" Greene

Mr. Eugene "Snuffy" Greene, 83, passed away Sunday, April 23, 2023. Eugene Greene was born May 7, 1939, in Dublin, GA, to his late parents, Willie Earnest "Bo" and Jane Paris Greene. He was also preceded in death by his wife of thirty-two years, Shirley Greene, whom he missed greatly. Two siblings have passed away including a sister, Joyce Morgan, and a brother, Earnest Greene. Mr. Greene was a hardworking man all of his life. He began work at sixteen years of age for the Lovett family in Laurens County. He was experienced in almost any kind of farm work from timber to row crops to hay fields. He also worked for twenty-three years in the pulp-wooding and sawmill business. The next twenty-five or so years, Mr. Greene returned to farming with the Stinson family and then with E. M. "Chick" McGowan keeping white face Herefords happy. Cattle was his interest whether it be keeping the hay healthy for their food or tending after the new calves in season. Mr. Greene leaves behind his four surviving siblings: Janette (Wayne) Lazenby; Willie Mae (Cleve) Newsome; Margaret Lyman; and Ray Greene. Mr. Greene was thankful for good friends which he had many of at Woodlawn Sr. Apartments where he spent the last few years as a resident. He will be remembered for his generous, big heart and an enjoyment of life that he was willing to share with all he knew. A celebration service will be held for family and friends with graveside services on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements will be taken care of by Stanley Funeral Home.
