Funeral services for Mr. Eugene D. Whatley, age 87, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Brown Memorial Baptist Church with interment to follow at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Andy Yates will officiate. Mr. Whatley was born April 4, 1929 in Sand Mountain, Alabama; he was preceded in death by his parents, the late Willie Brennen & Ethel Gaither Whatley and two sons, Mark Whatley and Captain Stan L. Fredrick, Jr. He was a member of Brown Memorial Baptist Church and was retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections as Administer of Education. He also formerly served as Principal at Palmer Stone Elementary School in Oxford, Henderson Middle School in Jackson, Ficquett Elementary School in Covington and Summerour Middle School in Gwinnett County. Mr. Whatley passed away Friday, October 14, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Haskins Whatley of Wrightsville, two sons, Mike Whatley of Covington and Charles Whatley of Dublin, a brother, Leeman Whatley of Rome and five grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, October 17, 2016 at the funeral home. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
