Mrs. Frances Louise Martin Spivey, age 98 passed away September 18th in Elberton, Ga. She was born June 21, 1920 in Dublin, Georgia.
Mrs. Spivey is survived by two daughters - Catherine Spivey Johnston (Joe Johnston) of Gray, Georgia and Madelyn Spivey Johnson of Elberton, Georgia. Also survived by three grandchildren- Alan Johnson and Suzanne Johnson Barnett of Elberton, Georgia and Hiller Johnston Crook (Jay Crook) of Gray, Georgia. Three great grand children - Will Faircloth of Gray. Georgia and Johnson Barnett and Spivey Lyn Barnett both of Elberton, Georgia. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Spivey was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Clarence Webster (Webb) Spivey, Jr. plus 7 sisters and one brother. Her parents were Hodges Martin and Clyde Simmons Martin of Dublin, Georgia.
Mrs. Spivey was a member of the First Christian Church in Dublin, Georgia, where she sang in the choir and played the organ. She graduated as a registered nurse from Central State Hospital School of Nursing and later received a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She was employed at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville, Georgia, and the Veteran Administration Hospital in Dublin, Georgia for years. Mrs. Spivey was an avid collector of antiques and antique dolls. Her collection of dolls was also featured on the Dublin television station on more than one occasion. Her home was visited often by many admirers of her antiques and doll collection.
Mrs. Spivey, affectionately known as "Mama" or Aunt Frances was well known for her upbeat and vivacious, loving personality. She was so well loved and admired by those who ever knew her. She enjoyed being the "care giver" to anyone that needed care.
The family expresses loving gratitude for care to the following: Mary Jones of Dublin, Magnolia Estates Assisted Living and Nancy Hart Nursing Care Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 24, 2018 at the First Christian Church, with burial to follow at Northview Cemetery. Rev. Billy Glosson will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. Sunday, September 23, 2018 at the funeral home.
