Frank J Ackerson, age 81 of Dublin, Georgia formerly of Mahwah, New Jersey passed away on Thursday October 1, 2015.
Frank was born on January 8, 1934 in Mahwah, NJ. He was the son of the late Thomas J and Dorothy Ackerson. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After leaving the Army, he returned to Mahwah to work in the family's automobile business. He soon joined the Mahwah police force and was a member of the Mahwah volunteer fire department and ambulance corps. As a past President of the Policemen's Benevolent Association Local 143, he was voted life membership in 1971. He retired from the Mahwah police force in 1972 and returned to the automobile business. Frank spent over 40 years in the automobile industry. Upon graduating from General Motors University of Auto Management, he moved his family to Dublin, Georgia where he worked as the Service Manager for Livingston Olds-Cadillac-GMC-Nissan. During his time of service in the automobile industry, he received multiple awards for service excellence. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dublin, where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Dublin Lions Club.
Frank had a love of travel, automobiles, and family, recently celebrating 57 years of marriage with his beloved wife Lorraine, whom he cherished above anything else. His love of family extended to his three sons, Jay Ackerson of Castle Rock, Colorado, Michael Ackerson of Columbia, South Carolina, Wayne Ackerson of North Augusta, South Carolina, daughters-in-law Tracy and Marti, and six grandchildren Allison, Tiffany, Kristina, Stephanie, Courtney, and Oren.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter Wendy Sue Ackerson and brother Thomas.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Prayer Vigil Service at 3:00 pm followed by visitation until 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday October 5, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1559 highway 441 North Dublin, Georgia 31021
