Gerald Whipple Slaughter

November 6, 1933 — March 2, 2015

Gerald W. Slaughter died peacefully at home on late Monday evening March 2, 2015. Beloved husband of Mary Ellen Slaughter, Gerald is survived by his wife and three children, Jeff Slaughter, Jan Jones, and Melanie Morgan; his grandchildren Trammell, Peyton, Shelby, Griffin, Allison, Tory, Claire, and Susie; his siblings Kenneth Slaughter, Harriette Adams, Clay Slaughter and Aundrea Welden; and many more family and friends. Born in Jeffersonville, Gerald is preceded in death by his parents Harrison and Pennie Slaughter and sisters Karon Wilson and Jeanene Jones. Gerald served in the Air Force for 23 years before retiring to Dublin. The Slaughters made many friends all over the country and world, and their first order of business after moving was to find a church home. Gerald was a 32nd degree Mason of the Goose Bay Masonic Lodge in Labrador. At the Take Ten Video Game Company, he created a safe and uplifting environment for kids for over 10 years. Gerald loved to fish and did so everywhere including on his commercial fishing boat off the coast of California and even pulling in catfish out of the Caspian Sea. The Slaughters spent the last 22 summers in Alaska catching salmon and halibut and enjoying their many friends and church family at Soldatna First Baptist. Gerald and Mary helped with the Church's efforts to feed and witness to the many people who fished in the Kenai River. Gerald cherished each of his children and grandchildren and more than anything else his beloved wife Mary. There will be an informal graveside service at 11:00am followed by a reception at Bethsaida Baptist Church at 2519 US Highway 80West, Dublin, Georgia 31021 on Friday March 6, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bethsaida Baptist Brotherhood. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
