Grace was the fifth child born to Henry Brinson Caneega and Addie Crawford Caneega on April 8,1935.
She grew up on their family farm in Johnson County, and graduated from Wrightsville High School. After graduation, she attended Wesleyan College in Macon Georgia, and later returned home to marry her childhood sweetheart, Lovett Lamar Claxton, whom she affectionately called "Sonny". Grace was the Director for the Johnson County Training Center in Wrightsville, Georgia, until she retired, and she also served on the District Mental Health Board. Grace had a love for music, and her children and grandchildren will always cherish the memories of gathering around her baby grand piano on Christmas Eve and singing Christmas carols, as she played.
