Harold Deal

September 16, 1927 — January 25, 2015

Mr. Harold Deal, age 87, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, January 25, 2015. He was born, September 16, 1927, as the youngest of eight children to Walter Eugene & Bessie Kate Joiner Deal. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, John Douglas Deal. He had a great love for his family, friends and church. His interests were gardening, bicycling and traveling. He was a graduate of Brewton Parker College and he also attended Mercer University. He served as an air traffic controller in the 5th Air Force at Yokota Air Base in Japan during World War II. He was the manager of Wrightsville Lumber Company for over 40 years. He was a member of Brown Memorial Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught the Men's Bible Class for many years. He also filled in at many area churches as a Lay Minister. For the past two years he led the Tuesday morning Bible Study at the Johnson County Senior Citizen Center. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Adelaide Deal of Wrightsville; three sons, Steve (Fran) Deal of Meeks, Bruce (Teri) Deal of Wrightsville and Gene (Alice) Deal of Athens; a sister, Katherine Harrison of Snellville; three grandchildren, Stephanie Deal (Mark) Johnson of Milledgeville, Wiley Stephen (Summer) Deal of LaGrange , Tori (James) Beverly of Wrightsville, Heather Riner of Meeks and Tee Riner of Meeks; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Brown Memorial Baptist Church with interment to follow at Westview Cemetery. Rev. Stephen Blitch and Rev. Lloyd Stembridge will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 27, 2014 at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Joe Sumner, Phillip Boatright, Glenn Mathis, Kenneth Deal, Mark Caneega and Mark Crosby. Honorary escort will include Dr. Jean Sumner, Deacons of Brown Memorial Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Brown Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 191, Wrightsville, Georgia 31096, in memory of Mr. Deal. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel is in charge of funeral arrangements.
