Harold Gamble Shannon

Funeral services for Harold Gamble Shannon, age 77 will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Poplar Springs South Baptist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Bro. Mark Davidson and Bro. Tony Price will officiate.

Mr. Shannon was born April 18, 1946, in Dublin, Georgia. He was the son of the late Willie O. Shannon and Mary Will Martin Shannon. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rodney Chris Shannon, 5 sisters, Mavis Wood, Carrie Bell Foskey, Anne Sheppard, Nina Lake, and Mary Love Necessary, and 3 brothers, John B. Shannon, Charles Shannon, and Robert Shannon. He retired from the Dublin Courier Herald where he worked as a Press Forman for 43 years. He was a member of Poplar Springs South Baptist Church where he served as their song leader. He was a member of the former Laurens County Saddle Club. Mr. Shannon had a love and passion for Gospel music where he sang with Keith and the Shannonaires, Song Masters, Resurrection, Family Traditions, and the Shannon Family. His greatest joy was singing with his children and grandchildren. Mr. Shannon passed away Monday, November 13, 2023, at Fairview Park Hospital.

Mr. Shannon is survived by his wife, Phyllis Raburn Shannon of Dublin, 2 daughters, Rhonda (Mark) Davidson of Dublin, and Cherrie (Joel) Blackburn of Dublin, a daughter-in-law, Beth Shannon of Dublin, a brother, Oscar Shannon of Chester, a sister, Louise Foskey of Birchwood, TN, 5 grandchildren, Lauri Anna Davidson (Patrick) Brown, Megan Shannon (James) Johnson, Riley (Maddie McDaniel) Davidson, Bo (Adrianna) Davidson, and Chappie Love Blackburn , and a great-grandchild, Drew Rodney Johnson.

Pallbearers will be Riley Davidson, Bo Davidson, James Johnson, Patrick Brown, Mike Rowe, and Rhett Carter.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Mike Moore, Stan Sheppard, Russell Sheppard, and the Poplar Springs South Baptist Church Adult Sunday School Class.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the funeral home.
