Funeral services for Harrold Allen "Chuck" Gilbert, age 81 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 3, 2018 in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory, with interment to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Jody Martin will officiate.
Mr. Gilbert was born November 28, 1936 in Thomaston, Georgia. He was the son of the late Rev. Carl and Maudie Lee Hilton Gilbert. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was retired from the civil service at Robins Air Force Base. He was a member of Maple Springs United Methodist Church where he served as a lay leader, speaker and Sunday School Superintendent. He was a Delegate for the South Georgia United Methodist Conference. He was a Gideon's International speaker and church assignment secretary. He served on the Board of Directors and Chaplain for the Herrington Homestead Sheriff's Youth Home. He was a Bellsouth Pioneers Partner volunteer where he served as State Chapter Chairman. He loved being a volunteer for keeping Dublin Laurens County beautiful. Mr. Gilbert passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Serenity Place following an extended illness.
Mr. Gilbert is survived by his loving wife, Jeannette Ivey Gilbert of 55 years of East Dublin, a daughter, Carla G. (Bobby) Dollar of East Dublin, a brother, James Carl Gilbert of Jeffersonville, a sister, Shelvie G. (Walter) Lackey of Macon, 2 grandchildren, Daniel (Danielle) Dollar, and Allison Dollar.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Dollar, Brad Dollar, Bert Dollar, Bill Giles, Rusty Soles, Grant Sumner.
Honorary Escort will consist of members of the Gideon's International and Auxiliary.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in memory of Mr. Gilbert to The Gideon's International at P.O. Box 27, Dublin, GA 31040 or to the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes at P.O. Box 1000, Stockbridge, GA 30281.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Wrightsville Manor for their excellent and loving care of Chuck. We would also like to thank Serenity Hospice of Dublin.
