Henry Clyde Evans, age 87, was born on June 2, 1936, to the late Herman and Lucille Evans. He was one of 8 children that lived on a farm outside of Rentz, Georgia. He grew up plowing a mule and picking cotton. He served in the United States Air Force for 2 years. After his service he was employed at Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia. He started a cabinet business in 1957. His business expanded and prospered as the low-rent housing market grew. He employed several hundred people and transported up to 25 truckloads per week. His cabinet business supplied New York City Housing Authority for many years and almost all housing authorities bought their cabinets from him. He supplied the military bases in the Panama Canal and Guam. It was not always work, as he enjoyed his extensive travels to Europe and South Africa. On one of his return trips back he rode the Concorde. In addition to his cabinet business, he was also a shrewd investor being one of the early investors in MBNA Credit Card. Clyde Evans was a very generous man. He would help anyone if he found out they were in need. He helped with sending funding to Cumberland College and Shriners Hospital. When he retired, he mostly spent time working on his homeplace improving the land with food plots for the wildlife and putting up bird houses. He owned a motorhome and traveled in it for several years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, the love of his life, Lousue C. Evans; sisters, Lillian Francis Hooks, Marjorie Inez Moore, Bessie Pearl Cody; brothers Georgia Preston Lee Evans and Robert Earl Evans.
He leaves behind sons Brent Evans (Lydia) and Ashley Evans (Meredith); a daughter Katrinia Gatti (Paul); sisters Mary Louise Evans and Frances Fay Evans-Martin; grandchildren Rhett Evans (Shannon), Tara Evans Ogletree (Jeremy), Hannah Atwood (Jonathan), Logan Evans, Mary Claxton Gatti, and Joseph Gatti; great grandchildren Stella Evans, Charlie-Sue Ogletree, Maddie-Claire Ogletree, Raeleigh Atwood, Aurthur Atwood, John Atwood, Aurora Atwood and Oran Burton.
