Hershel L. Neal, Jr.

Funeral services for Hershel L. Neal, Jr., age 79, will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday, August 15, 2015, in Dublin, GA at Jefferson Street Baptist Church with interment to follow at Poplar Springs South Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Darren Talley will officiate. Mr. Neal was born on April 18, 1936 in Laurens County, Georgia. He was the son of the late Hershel Leon and Ola Mercer Neal. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ellen (N.A.) Bright. He was a 1958 graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his B.S. in Forestry. He retired from the Georgia Forestry Commission in 1990. He was a member and deacon of Jefferson Street Baptist Church. He served in the Georgia Air National Guard. Mr. Neal passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Serenity Place. Mr. Neal is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Laura Harden Neal of Dublin, a son, Brian (Ramona) Neal of Pittsburgh, PA, a brother, Aaron (Sandra) Neal of Danville, 2 sisters-in-law, Freda (Tommy) Daniel of Dublin, and Wanda Harden of St. Simons, 2 grandchildren, Brendan Neal and Ethan Neal of Pittsburgh, PA, and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Jefferson Street Baptist Church Social Hall. Flowers are accepted or donations be made in memory of Mr. Neal to Jefferson Street Baptist Church at 201 North Jefferson Street, Dublin, GA 31021.
