Hugh "Tobie" Harris Veal, Sr.

Funeral services for Hugh "Tobie" Harris Veal Sr., age 86, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in Westview Cemetery. Rev. Harris Veal, Rev. James Veal and Mr. Ralph Veal will officiate. Services will be livestreamed at https://my.gather.app/remember/hugh-tobie-harris-veal-sr Mr. Veal was born March 21, 1936, in Wrightsville, Georgia. Tobie passed away at his home Sunday, August 14th. He served as deacon and Sunday school teacher at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for many years, also chairman of the building committee. He spent many years working at the church. He loved God and God's work. He loved auctions and spent many days doing just that. If it couldn't be found at Tobie's store you probably didn't need it anyway. He loved his family and taught his boys the value of working hard. He was married to his sweetheart, Inez Lindsey Veal for 66 years. He worked at Ivey's store cutting meat for many years, but he was a farmer most of his life and a member of Georgia Farm Bureau. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Veal and Lillie Belle Waller, brothers, Ralph "Bo", Jim and Harry, and sisters, Kate Ivey, Blanche Powell, Rubye Holland, Hazel Kyzer, Eloise Ogburn, Emmie Bray and Ruth Moorman. He is survived by his wife, Inez Lindsey Veal of Wrightsville, sons, Hugh (Jerri) Veal of Wrightsville, James Veal of Arlington, TX and Bruce (Rachel) Veal of Wrightsville, sister-in-law, Carllene Veal of Atlanta, grandchildren, Christa McLeod, Harris (Elizabeth) Veal, D.J. (Jane) Sikes, Tyler Veal, Clarissa (Britt) Sangster, Kevin Veal and great grandchildren Timothy Sangster, Sailer Veal and Hugh "Tobie" Harris Veal, IV. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. on Wednesday prior to the service at the church. Pallbearers will be D. J. Sikes, Tyler Veal, Veal Moorman, Kevin Veal, Rob Veal and Ken Bray. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Killingsworth, Robert Veal, Cal Chester, William Hall, Van Moorman, Nelson Powell, Ralph Veal and Al Rowland. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
