Idona Rowland Carter

Funeral services for Idona Rowland Carter, age 92, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 24, 2023, in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory, with interment to follow at Carter's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Robert Rogers will officiate.

Mrs. Carter was born August 9, 1931, in Scott, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late Clifford Hines and Josie Lou Wynne Rowland. She was also preceded in death by her two husbands, Elmer Claude Carter and James Monroe Carter, two sons, Donald Carr Carter, and Ronald Clifford Carter, a grandson, Christopher Carter, and three brothers, Dewey Rowland, Clyde Rowland, and Edward Rowland. She was a graduate of Brewton High School. She retired as a Paraprofessional for the Laurens County School System, the Dublin City School System, and the Richmond County School System. She was a member of Springdale Baptist Church and also was a member of Scott Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, VBS, and served as the Training Union Leader. She was a member of the Progressive Home Demonstration Club. She enjoyed gardening, sports, and cooking. She was a team member for the Brewton School Varsity Basketball Team. She served as a Jekyll Island Tour Guide. Mrs. Carter passed away Monday, November 20, 2023, at her residence.

Mrs. Carter is survived by her two daughters-in-law, Karen Carter of Dublin, and Judy Carter of Dexter, a brother, Alton (Emily) Rowland of East Dublin, a sister, Fay Price of Dublin, a sister-in-law, Audrey Rowland of Gray, three grandchildren, Lucy Carter (Jason) Crosby, Tim (Kristie) Carter, and April Carter Watson, four great-grandchildren, a special friend, Betty Barbee, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Claude Barbee, Cody Barbee, Parker Brimidge, John Flanders, Samuel Hight, Larry Thigpen, and Henry Irwin.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 24, 2023, at the funeral home.
