On December 21, 2025, Ina Wheeler Flanders (Kitty) went to be with her Lord and Savior. Graveside services will be held Monday, December 29, 2025, at 11 AM at Corinth Methodist Church cemetery officiated by Reverend Wes Webb.
Ina, named after her aunt, was affectionately called Kitty by family and friends. She was born on October 1,1928 to Eunice L. Wheeler and Louella Smith Wheeler in Norristown, Emanuel County, Georgia, a town named after her great-grandfather, Norris Durden, who was the first Postmaster and a Civil War veteran.
Kitty graduated from Adrian High School where she met her husband, Billy Flanders, and they played in the band together. After graduation, she began working at Warner Robins Air Force Base and was a member of First Christian Church of Macon, where she sang in the choir. She and Billy married there on December 29, 1956. After marriage, they resided in Montezuma, Watkinsville, and later settled on family property in Johnson County where they raised their three children. Although a full-time homemaker, always a life-long learner, she continued her education at Brewton Parker College, Georgia Southern University, and Georgia College and State University.
Kitty served twice as President of the Adrian Garden Club where she developed some of her fondest friendships. She was also instrumental in organizing the first PTO of Adrian High School. While residing in Johnson County, she was a member and Sunday School teacher at Corinth Church.
In 1992, she and Billy moved to Dublin where they worked together in his surveying business, Billy Flanders and Associates for over 20 years. They were members of the Dublin First United Methodist Church. She had an avid interest in arts and history, and enjoyed reading, oil painting, cross-stitching and other crafts.
Kitty spent the last five years of her life in the loving and compassionate care of The Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, E.L. Wheeler, Jr., sister, Mary Lou Louden, grandchild, Mary Frances Flanders, and her beloved husband of 55 years, H. Billy Flanders.
She is survived by a family she adored including sons Herbert Stan Flanders, of Adrian, David Spencer Flanders, Sr. (Lezlee), of Atlanta and daughter, Lori Flanders Cook (Mike), of St. Simons Island; grandchildren: Herbert Stanley Flanders II, Sarah Lanier Flanders, David Spencer Flanders, Jr., Madelyn Flanders Cook, Michael Thomas Cook; great grandchild, Phoebe Flanders; sister, Gloria Mason of Swainsboro, and several nieces and nephews.
Kitty will forever be remembered for her quick wit and positive attitude.
