James Harvey Blizzard, 68, of Wrightsville, passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021, of complications from Covid-19.
Mr. Blizzard was born on December 21, 1952, in Wadley, Georgia to the late Joseph Vezy Blizzard and Artie Dell Lindsey Blizzard. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William Harvey Blizzard and Evelle Mayo Blizzard, and maternal grandparents, James Arlie Lindsey and Melinda Price Lindsey, and wife, Debbie Brantley Blizzard.
He was a 1970 graduate of Johnson County High School where he was a standout member of the football team, playing both Offensive Guard and Lineman. After high school, he joined the Army Reserve and was stationed in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.
Mr. Blizzard was retired after 34 years with the Georgia Department of Transportation in Tennille, Georgia as the Welding Shop Supervisor. He was the first person in the State to be certified to weld on bridges and was the recipient of the Commissioners Merit Award for his design and invention of the computer system server rack.
Mr. Blizzard was a member of New Home Baptist Church, American Legion Post 44 and the Johnson Greys Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 1688. He was well-known for his cooking and Pitmaster skills, particularly his BBQ and sauce.
He is survived by his Wife, Tommie Brown Blizzard ;Son, Aaron Blizzard; Daughters, Risa (Jim) Fortner and Melissa Price; Brother, Donald (Shannon) Blizzard; Grandson, Jesse Kight; Granddaughters, Elizabeth Kight, Charley Price, Jade Price, Brantley Price and Abigail Fortner; Stepsons, Erik Powell and Derek Powell; Niece, Hallie Blizzard (Jordan) Fenton; Nephew, Max Blizzard; Aunts, Marthelle Blizzard Powell, Betty Lindsey (Doug) Bush, Inez Lindsey (Tobie) Veal, Eveline Lindsey (Norman) Schneller, Thelma Lindsey and Brenda Brantley (David) Allen; Sister-in-Law, Delene Drew (Dan) Taylor; Brothers-in-Law, Hanson (Melinda) Brantley, Michael Brantley, Gary (Mollye) Smith, Hank (Anne) Williams, Jim (Beth) Foster and James A. (Claire) Drew; Canine companion, Dolly Blizzard.
Pallbearers will be nephew, Max Blizzard and cousins, Jimmy Blizzard, Bobby Blizzard, Roy Powell, Charles Harrison, Hugh Veal, Bruce Veal and Hueal Veal.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 22nd from 6-8 at Stanley Funeral Home, Wrightsville. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 23rd at 2 PM at New Home Baptist Church in Johnson County with Rev. Phil Wilson, Rev. Donnie Baker and Rev. Jason Edenfield officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Westview Cemetery.
