James "Sweeney" Davis

Graveside funeral services for James "Sweeney" Arther Davis, age 79 will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 24, 2019 at Westview Cemetery. Rev. James Covington will officiate. Mr. Davis was born May 3,1940 in Wrightsville, Georgia. He was the son of the late J.C. and Mellie Ree Edge Davis. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Raley Davis. He was a retired self-employed housing contractor and local business owner. He was a caring and fun loving simple man. He loved spending time with family and friends. He loved being a Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandson. Mr. Davis passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Savannah Memorial Hospital. Mr. Davis is survived by his daughter, Genie (Russell) Sheppard of East Dublin, 2 grandchildren, Russell (Jillian) Sheppard of Dublin, and Wes (Natalie) Sheppard of Vidalia, a great-grandchild, Weston Morris Sheppard of Vidalia, a sister-in-law, Doris Raley of Rincon, nieces and nephews, Robin Raley, Ashley Raley, Liam Wood, Ken (Betty Jo) Davis, and Teresa (Paul) Jackson, and special friend, Brenda Rogers of Wrightsville and family, Mollie and Scotty Gray, Lori and Tyler Sweat, and Joyce Spivey. Pallbearers will be Russ Sheppard, Wes Sheppard, Tyler Sweat, Ken Davis, Scotty Gray, and Russell Sheppard. The family will receive friends immediately after the graveside service at Westview Cemetery. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
