Memorial service for James G. Williams will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the First United Methodist Church in Wrightsville, Georgia. Dr. Mike Bankston and Reverend Tucker Lewis will officiate.
Mr. Williams was born on Saturday, December 13, 1941, in Johnson County to the late Leroy Williams and Florence Heath Williams. He was also predeceased by his sister, Joyce Williams Lord, and a brother, Lee Royce Williams.
Mr. Williams grew up in rural Johnson County where he attended school in Harrison, Georgia and the Balls Ferry school. Mr. Williams graduated in 1959 from Wrightsville High School where he was voted "Most Dependable". During his high school years, he played basketball and baseball. He often spoke of his Senior Trip to New York where he got to see the New York Yankees play baseball. After high school, Mr. Williams spent time in the U. S. Army until he transferred to the Army Reserves. He attended Swainsboro Tech where he became a trained machinist. In 1967, he married Kay Flanders and established a home in Wrightsville.
Mr. Williams began work with his father-in-law, Paul C. Flanders, at Flanders Auto Parts in 1977. He became owner/operator in 1987. During his time in business, Mr. James successfully operated a vibrant auto parts and hardware business. He developed business and personal relationships with customers and salespeople, many of which he maintained after retiring. In his business and personal lives, Mr. James was known for his honesty, work ethic, dependability, concern for others and his giving spirit. Mr. Williams was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Kay Flanders Williams, son, James G. (Jennifer) Williams, Jr. of York, South Carolina, a daughter, Gayle Williams (Arthur) Brinson of Millen, two brothers, Roy (Carlene) Williams of Wrightsville and Wesley (Jeanette) Williams (Roopville, Georgia), grandchildren, Will Brinson, Beau Brinson, and Caroline Williams, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 PM at First United Methodist Church in Wrightsville. Service is Wednesday 2 PM at First United Methodist Church in Wrightsville.
Pallbearers are Will Brinson, George Lord, Michael Williams, Jeff Williams, Steve Hall, Bryan Layman, Dennis Moore, and Ernesto Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wrightsville High School Class of 1959.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Wrightsville, P. O. Box 30, Wrightsville, GA 31096 or to the First Assembly of God Church, 86 Lakeside Drive, Wrightsville, GA 31096.
Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Wrightsville Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
