James Austin Horton

Funeral services for James Austin Horton, age 88 will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, August 11, 2017 in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory. Rev. Jay Moore, Rev. Darren Talley and Rev. Ken Purcell will officiate. Mr. Horton was born on April 29, 1929 in Plant City, Florida. He was the son of the late Hubie and Leila Floyd Horton. He also preceded in death by his son, Steve Horton. He was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He taught Naval History and was in charge of the ROTC Program at Brown University. He was a Past President for Good Sam R.V. Club. Mr. Horton passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Serenity Place. Mr. Horton is survived by his wife, Gail Horton of East Dublin, a son, James David Horton of Naples, FL, a daughter, Kitty Horton Grey of Dublin, 2 stepson's, Van Wagner of Augusta, and Steve Wagner of East Dublin, a stepdaughter, Sheila Wagner of Gainesville, FL, a brother, Jim Horton of Dublin, and several grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. on Friday, August 11, 2017 at the funeral home. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
