James Tullie Palmer

The passing of James Tullie Palmer, 82, occurred on June 1, 2023 at his home in Oconee, GA. James was born on October 28, 1940 and was raised in Oconee, GA. He attended Tennille High School and participated in extra-curriculars as the only boy in Beta Club. While in high school he was encouraged by a devoted teacher to further his education at Georgia Tech University. Once accepted to Georgia Tech, his mother and uncle drove him to Atlanta with one suitcase and wished him well. Over the next four years he studied hard and hitchhiked home to visit when he could. His hard work through school eventually paid off when he landed a job at Engelhard Corporation in McIntyre, GA. While not long after he married the love of his life Faye Mixon Palmer and they made McIntyre their home for the next fifty years. He worked hard at the company and eventually became Site Manager. He was remembered by his former employees for his fairness and kind heart. On many occasions his former employees would stop him in the streets to thank him for his kindness that he had shown them many years prior. Over his lifetime he was known as daddy and granddaddy - the man who loved unconditionally and would never turn down any piece of pie. A man of few words but one that was always prepared to take notes with his yellow legal pad by his side. While he may have been a man of few words himself, those who knew him could have written a novel on how much he was loved. He was preceded in death by his wife Faye Mixon Palmer and parents J.T. and Wydel Palmer. He is survived by his brother Larry Palmer; son James Jason Palmer (Karen) and his grandchildren; Seth Palmer (Brook), Jasmine Palmer and Sky Reicherter.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 5, 2023, in Bay Springs Methodist Church, 1176 Hwy 272 Tennille (Oconee), Georgia with Rev. Joe Bedgood officiating. Interment will follow at Antioch Christian Church Cemetery in Oconee, GA.
