James Verlon Stokes

Funeral services for James Verlon Stokes, age 77 will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 22, 2023, in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory, with interment to follow at Marie Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Clyde Stokes will officiate.

Mr. Stokes was born April 28, 1946, in Douglas, Georgia. He was the son of the late Loyd and Annie Smith Stokes. He was the owner of S&S Janitorial Carpet Cleaning. Mr. Stokes passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Memorial Health of Savannah.

Mr. Stokes is survived by his wife, Peggy Jean Woodard Stokes of Dublin;2 sons, James Anthony (Sharon) Stokes of Dublin, and Darrell Ralph (Shanda) Stokes of Glenwood; a daughter, Sheila Renee Newton of Dublin; 2 brothers, Albert (Nellie) Stokes of Valdosta, and Clyde (Marion) Stokes of Valdosta, and 5 grandchildren, Cailin Newton, Ethan Stokes, Owen Stokes, Karah Newton, and Sadie Stokes.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Stokes, Ethan Stokes, Owen Stokes, Buck Sanders, Phillip Thomas, Kenneth Hughes, and Kelly Newton.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM Monday, May 22, 2023, at the funeral home.
