Jerry Lamar Sumner

Funeral services for Mr. Jerry Lamar Sumner, age 71 will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Walter Mingledorff, Rev. Tim Tharp, and Rev. Roger Holley will officiate. Mr. Sumner was born on December 3, 1943 in Adrian, Georgia. He was the son of the late Ottis Sumner and Opal Jones Sumner Walker. He was also preceded in death by his son, Kevin Jerry Sumner, his stepfather, Manning Walker. and a step-sister, Pat Kemp. He was a retired engineer for the Georgia Department of Transporation. He served in the Georgia Army National Guard. He was a member of Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene where he was a past Sunday School Teacher, and a member of the Grounds Committee. Mr. Sumner passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at Serenity Place. Mr. Sumner is survived by his loving wife, Shirley C. Sumner of Adrian, a son, Keith (Leslie) Sumner of Dublin, a brother, Jimmy Sumner of Adrian, a sister, Barbara Ann Brantley of Adrian, and Betty Sue Sheppard of Thomaston, four grandchildren, Kaylee Sumner, Marlee Sumner, Peyton Sumner, and Jadelynn Sumner, three step-brothers, Bobby Walker, Jimmy Walker, and Donnie Walker and a step-sister, Sue Owens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Mr. Sumner to Pruitt Hospice at 667South Main Street, Swainsboro, Georgia 30401 or to Serenity Place at 504 Parker Dairy Road, Dublin, Georgia 31021.
