Funeral services for Mr. Joe White Harrison, age 94 will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 4, 2014 in the Chapel of Jefferson Street Baptist Church, with interment to follow at New Home Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Darren Talley and Rev. Phil Wilson will officiate. Mr. Harrison was born on January 5, 1920 in Kite, Georgia. He was the son of the late John Clifton and Bessie Wheeler Harrison. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Stanley Harrison, a son, Timothy Joseph Harrison, 4 siblings, Nannie Bell Belcher, J.C. "Dock" Harrison, Broughton Harrison, and Tenella Maye. Mr. Harrison has lived in Laurens County since the late 1940's. He served in the United States Army Signal Corps and Medical Corps. during WWII. He was a retired nursing assistant at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center. He was a member of Jefferson Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the American Legion Dublin Post #17, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mr. Harrison passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center. Mr. Harrison is survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jernigan and Virginia Stanley of Dublin, a sister-in-law, Wynona Weaver of Dudley, a devoted caregiver, Gail McClinton, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Harrison's great nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, September 4, 2014 in the Chapel of Jefferson Street Baptist Church. The family asks that donations be made in memory of Mr. Harrison to Jefferson Street Baptist Church at 209 North Jefferson Street/Dublin, GA 31021, or to New Home Baptist Church in C/O Kay Harrison at 503 Fortner Road/Kite, Georgia 31049. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel has charge of funeral arrangements.
