A memorial service for Judge Joe Wesley Rowland, age 86, will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 25, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Kirk Hagan, Dr. J. Roy Rowland, Jr. and Mr. Harris Veal officiating.
Mr. Rowland was born Christmas day in 1928 in Wrightsville, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late J. Roy Rowland, Sr. and Jerradine Brinson Rowland and his wife, Helen Garnto Rowland. He graduated from Wrightsville High School in 1945 and attended North Georgia College in Dahlonega for three years; he graduated from Mercer Law School, Macon, Georgia in January, 1952 with two degrees: AB and LLB. He practiced law in Wrightsville for forty years; during that time he served as city attorney, county attorney, and judge of the State Court. He also served as Chief Magistrate judge of Johnson County before retiring in 2008. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he formerly served as Sunday school teacher and was also a member and past president of the Dublin Circuit Bar Association. Mr. Rowland passed away Wednesday September 23, 2015 at his home.
He is survived by his children, Patsy (Bob) Barron of Macon, Jerri (Hugh) Veal, Mary Beth Thompson and Joey (Sherry) Rowland all of Wrightsville, a brother, Dr. J. Roy (Luella) Rowland, Jr. of Dublin, three grandchildren, Scotty (Lauren)Thompson, Harris Veal, and Christa (Brandon) McLeod and one great-grandchild, Jude Thompson
The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 25, 2015 at the church.
Due to health related issues, the family asks that each person attending the visitation and the service to please refrain from wearing perfume and/or cologne
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 in memory of Mr. Rowland.
