John Leonard Powell, Jr., age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17th, following a brief battle with vascular dementia. Leonard was born on August 29th, 1942, to John Leonard, Sr., and Mamie Lou Powell. He was a 1960 graduate of Wrightsville High School.
In 1965, Leonard married Eleanor Sue Peavy and began their family in Wrightsville, Georgia. His career in farm animal nutrition led his family to Ocala, Florida for 3 years. These years were formative for the Powell family before launching Hi-Tek Rations, Inc. and relocating to Dublin, Georgia. Under his leadership, Hi-Tek grew to become a national and international brand, winning multiple awards in the pet food industry. However, Leonard's greatest legacy is his family. He dedicated his life to their care and well-being. He is known by the community for his generosity, always going above and beyond for those in need. Leonard lived by 1 Timothy 5:8, often quoting it. "Anyone who does not provide for their relatives and especially for their own household, has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever."
Leonard was preceded in death by his father, John Leonard Powell, Sr., and mother, Mamie Lou Powell, and an unnamed son lost in a miscarriage. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Sue Powell, and his two daughters, Connie Scott (Phillip), of Chattanooga, TN and Carron Powell, of Rentz, his 4 grandchildren, Dylan, Colby, Eliana, and John-David Scott, his brother, Ambros Powell (Lynn), of Wrightsville, his sister, Gayle Woodard (Durell) of Rentz and multiple nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, May 22, 2025, in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel of Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin with burial to follow in Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville. Rev. Burton Dixon and Rev. Billy Daws will officiate.
