John Wayne Wilson

Mr. John Wayne Wilson age 69 of Woodland Trails Rd. Dublin, GA. formerly of Fayetteville, GA. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at his home in Dublin following an extended illness. Mr. Wilson was born on September 25, 1956 in Young Harris, GA., the son of the late James Ford Wilson and the late Jennie Cordellia Plott Wilson. Mr. Wilson was raised in Blairsville, GA. He came from humble beginnings but created a thriving business, John W. Wilson Grading INC., which he operated in the Atlanta area for over thirty years where he worked alongside many family members. Mr. Wilson’s business success was the result of an unrivaled work ethic and an unyielding pride in the quality of his work. He was a loving and caring father, brother and grandfather. John was an avid outdoorsman who traveled the world from Alaska to Africa hunting and fishing with his friends and family. He instilled a love of the outdoors in his children which will carry on for generations. John was extraordinarily generous and found great joy in doing for others.

In 2012 he was struck down by a massive hemorrhagic stroke, but survived against all odds and recovered in ways that exceeded expectations. Mr. Wilson never fully recovered and required extensive care for the next 14 years until his passing; however, much of his warm and loving nature remained. Although John’s capacity for speech was limited, he was always quick to say “I love you.” These years were difficult in many ways but filled with love and laughter due to the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice by those who cared for him.

He was preceded in death by his parents and also a brother, James Wilson and a sister, Priscilla Greenway and his longtime friend and fishing guide, Charlie Brown of Belton, SC. Mr. Wilson was of the Christian faith.

Surviving Mr. Wilson are two sons, one daughter, and one daughter in law, John Chase Wilson (Karen) of Dublin, GA., Colt Wilson of Hartwell, GA., Casey Woodruff of Newnan, GA., two brothers and one sister in law, Paul and Nancy Wilson of Whitesburg, GA., Mark Wilson of Toccoa, GA., Barbara Burnett of Blairsville, Patricia Wise of Aiken, SC., his grandchildren, Madison Woodruff, Cody Wilson, Roxie Woodruff, Levi Wilson, John Wilson and Thomas Wilson, several nieces, nephews, close friend Steve Ebbert, devoted cousin Darryl Adams, caregiver of eight years Deborah Soles, and many other relatives and friends also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday July 30, 2026, at 2:00 pm at the Mountain View Chapel with Chaplin Steve Ebbert officiating. The following gentleman will serve as pallbearers, Clint Wilson, Cody Wilson, Zeb Adams, Kevin Redwine, Zack Webb, Clayton Gantt, with Levi Wilson as an honorary pallbearer. Interment will follow in the Duncan Cemetery where he will rest with his beloved parents. Flowers are accepted or if you wish, the family requests that donations may be made to the Shepherd Center of Atlanta in Mr. Wilson’s memory. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12-2:00 pm.
