Leo Earl Kight, Jr.

January 13, 1951 — July 26, 2019

This is the life story of Leo Earl Kight, Jr. Leo was a wonderful man that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Our "PaPa", as he liked to be called by his grandchildren, "Sweetheart", as he was called by his loving wife, "Daddy", as his beautiful daughters knew him and "Darlin' Angel" when he was little, was an amazing husband, Daddy, son, and a baker of chocolate biscuits like no other could be. Leo's story starts on January 13, 1951, the baby boy to Leo Earl Kight, Sr. and Runell Johnson Kight. Leo was born in Laurens County. Leo spent his childhood, growing up, and making lifelong friends in the small community of Lovett. He had fun running around with the boys, shooting BBs, riding putt putt cars on the railroad and moving the slide rail to the main track. We are all so thankful that group of Lovett boys didn't get caught because they would have been put under the jail. Leo completed his high school education in 1969 from Johnson County and this is where he met the love of his life, Emily Price Kight. Leo and Emily dated for five years before getting married on April 11, 1971 at New Home Baptist Church. Leo and Emily began their love story as a married couple in Covington, Georgia before coming back home and settling in Lovett. Leo and Emily had two girls, Sabrina and Julie both of Lovett. He taught them to fish, to hunt, to select a good quality hammer, to love nature, and most importantly to love God and to be happy. Leo was renowned for his cooking, blacksmithing, woodworking, and a fixer of mostly anything. Everyone always knew they would have plenty of homemade delicious food to eat when they came to visit. He loved to piddle in his shop making unique gifts for his girls every Christmas. Leo served as the community Mr. Fixer in assisting mostly the elderly with their phone, TV, washer, dryer problems or any other problem that arose. Leo followed in his Daddy's footsteps when he began his career with the Georgia Department of Transportation in Tennille, Georgia. He was a dedicated and hard worker for 34 years before retiring in 2003. Leo loved his community and being involved in civic organizations. He served as the first fire chief of Brewton Lovett Volunteer Fire Department beginning in 1977. He has actively participated since 2005 and served as the President of the Servant Riders Chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association since 2008. Leo has enjoyed ministering to the motorcycle community in addition to anyone else he encountered. He faithfully supported Lovett United Methodist Church for decades with majority of his time serving as Superintendent. Connor Tanner, Breanna Tanner, Trevor Washburn & Gavin Washburn were Leo's grandchildren and were his heart and joy. Time spent with PaPa building their tree house, working in the shop, and assisting in the kitchen was always very special for his grandchildren. Loved ones that cleared the path for Leo was his parents Earl & Runell Kight, and sister and brother-in-law Connie and Tommy Lindsey. Loved ones that will miss Leo until they meet again are his wife Emily Jeanette Price Kight; his daughters and son-in-laws Sabrina Kight Tanner and Kevin Tanner, Julie Kight Washburn and Lee Washburn; his sister and brother-in-law Loette Kight Mercer and Benjamin Mercer; his grandchildren Connor Tanner, Breanna Tanner, Trevor Washburn and Gavin Washburn; honorary family Emily Elizabeth Graham and Bradlee Graham; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Debra Price Powell and Thomas Powell; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. And so the story goes on until we see our Sweetheart, Daddy and PaPa again. We love you and miss you. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Brewton Baptist Church with interment to follow at Westview Cemetery in Wrightsville, Georgia. Reverend Kevin Tanner and Reverend Chris Moffit will officiate. Family will receive friends Wednesday, July 31, 2019 from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM at Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel.
