Liselotte Matthes Sieb passed away on August 2, 2017. She was born in Stuttgart, Germany on June 9, 1927. Raised by her maternal grandmother and in the Methodist faith, she survived the bombings of WWII and immigrated to New York in 1948. She met her husband, Herbert Karl Sieb (deceased October 11, 2001) while taking English classes at night school on Long Island. They married in 1954 and had a son Leslie (deceased December 29, 2012) and a daughter Ingrid.
Trained in bookkeeping as a young woman in Germany, she returned to work once her children were grown and learned computer skills to handle accounting in her 50's. She was a quiet and private person, yet had a strong and independent spirit. She didn't shy away from learning something new and at the age of 50 decided it was time to learn how to drive a car. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who was selfless in caring for her family. She loved to be outdoors in her garden and was also a wonderful cook. She enjoyed making some of her old German recipes while learning new American recipes too.
She is survived by her daughter, Ingrid (Manuel) Vega, and grandchildren Kristin (Will) Henson, Michael Vega, Danielle Vega and great-grandson Liam Henson.
