Lowell Gene Mulkey, Sr.

Funeral services for Lowell Gene Mulkey, Sr., age 87, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 3, 2022 at Dexter Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin Holcomb and Rev. Jeremiah Sluss. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Mulkey was born September 15, 1934, in Colquitt, Georgia to the late Lee Preston and Chloe Sheffield Mulkey. He was a member of the Siloam Baptist Church in Abbeville, Georgia and attended Dexter Baptist Church. Lowell was very well known for coaching and teaching at Norman Park High School, Norman College, Lee County High School, Abraham Baldwin College, Tiftarea Academy, and served as principal at Wilcox County High School. He served as a Testing Coordinator on the executive committee for the Georgia High School Association and was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame in Miller County and Brewton Parker College. He retired after 45 years from teaching and coaching. Mr. Mulkey passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022 at Piedmont Macon Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Mulkey of Dexter, two sons, Gene Mulkey of East Dublin and Curtis Lee Mulkey of Weatherford, TX, grandchildren, Chloe Michaela Mulkey and Seth Newsome-Mulkey, and great grandchild, Charlotte Grace Newsome. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. to 1:45 P.M. at the church. Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
