Lynda Lou Kilian, age 80, of Dublin, Georgia, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021. Lynda was born June 13, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas. Her parents were Irene and Richard Stawitz, and her beloved husband was Roland "Rex" Kilian.
Lynda lived most of her life in a roller-skating rink, starting her skating career in her teens, wining competitions across the country. In 1958, she won several metals in speed skating, at the World Championships in New Zealand. She became a renowned instructor, teaching hundreds of skaters over 5 decades in Lincoln NE, Miami FL, and Dublin GA.
Lynda, and her late husband Rex, owned and operated Rainbow Skating Center, in Dublin GA until 2010, bringing love and fun to the community through music, laughter and games. Their sister company was the Rainbow Day Care Center, where they cared for hundreds of children – babies to 12-year old's – supporting the communities' parents, so they could fulfill their personal careers.
Lynda was a "Jackie" of all trades. She was a beautiful painter and wood worker; she was a certified florist in Miami FL and created the most beautiful and interesting floral arrangements you've ever seen; and she was a master chef, completely self-taught, catering large events in Miami FL and Dublin GA.
Her passion, later in life, was quilting. Throughout her life, she sewed and made beautiful outfits for the skaters and her daughters, however, quilting became "Who" she was. While most of her quilts are pieced together and machine quilted, her hand-worked quilts are exquisite. She loved taking each pattern to the next level, never settling for the basics. Her quilting club friends were her dearest, save for her "partner in crime" Roberta Wood.
Lynda's final goal was to move to Tampa FL, to be close to her daughters. She achieved that goal, and was thrilled to call FL home again, after almost 40 years of being in GA. She was happy and loved and died knowing her daughters were nearby.
She is survived by her daughters Jami'Lyn Bailey and Leslie Maddox; her son-in-law, Brion Thomas Bailey and daughter-in-law, Kristy Jeanine Clark. She had 4 grandchildren: Cameron James Hudson – married to Vanessa Manuel Hudson, Aaron Andrew Kellie Durbin, Isabella Destiny Raine Burch, and Brion Kilian Bailey. Lynda recently had the joy of meeting her 1st Great Grandchild, Renee Laurente Hudson.
A Celebration of Life for Lynda will be held Saturday, July 30th, at 10am at The Carnegie Building – 311 Academy Ave, Dublin, GA. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org.
